Spotlight on…

Ivvavik National Park

Where raw beauty meets fascinating ecosystems, including one of Canada’s oldest rivers.

The Firth River flowing through the northern landscape of Ivvavik National Park.
A birth story

Located in northern Yukon, Ivvavik was the first national park created by an Indigenous land claim. The Inuvialuit people have lived here for 8,000 years. Their deep connection to this land prompted its protection.

Ivvavik means “a place for giving birth” in Inuvialuktun. The park, with its rolling tundra, coastal shoreline and rugged peaks, protects the calving grounds of the Porcupine Caribou Herd.

Wildlife snapshots

Wondering what animals live here and how they behave? Wildlife cameras located throughout the park have helped Parks Canada better understand their behaviour.

Explore stunning wildlife photos showcasing muskox, birds, and wolves among many others! Catch a glimpse of everything from curious caribou to laid-back bears.
